Regarding lecture at Belk College of Business on Sep. 30 – Comments:
Belk College of Business at UNC Charlotte, September 30, 2025

  • “One big takeaway from Becker’s presentation was his warning that starting a trade war is basically “playing with fire.” He explained how tariffs under Section 232 drive up costs at every step, from freight and insurance to interest,  until the final sales price is way higher. Reading about deficits and capital flows in the textbook is one thing, but hearing him walk through how those costs show up in real business transactions really made it sink in. ... I thought it was great that Becker also talked about his own experiences.... For me, the connection between the lecture slides, the textbook, and Becker’s real-world experience made the risks of deficits and tariffs much easier to picture.”
  • “Our guest speaker (Klaus E Becker) we had present today talk on trade wars and the global economic landscape within shipping helped me see how global politics connects directly to business decisions and everyday life. When countries put tariffs on each other, it’s not just about politics; it affects prices, supply chains, and even job opportunities. I never realized how fast one policy can make companies move production or raise costs for consumers. The topic tied directly to my career goals in finance and global business..”
  • “Our guest speaker, Mr. Klaus Becker, was very informative this week and greatly helped break down current trade trends in an engaging way. I was impressed by his background and how his experience led him to his current position.”
  • "I really enjoyed this week’s guest speaker, Mr. Klaus E. Becker and his perspective on the real world effects of tariffs in the international steel trade industry."
  • "I found this speaker to be extremely influential given he has lots of experience working in different countries during his professional career and could provide his experience within the topic. One piece of advice that really stood out to me during his lecture was the importance of learning different languages to facilitate international conversations."
We are grateful for the time and expertise you shared with us. It was a valuable experience for the students, and we look forward to having you back in the spring.
